A peaceful cabin by the woods nestled in the middle of nowhere, just as it's owner likes it.

| It was a quiet day. Just the way Rose Red liked it. The birds were chirping, the animals running around the freshly fallen leaves. From overhead the slow rumble of a cargo plane could be heard high above the trees but Rose didn't let that bother her as she sat reading on her front porch, rocking in her rocking chair. Anyone that looked at this red-haired woman sitting on her porch, would have suspected that she was nothing more than a poor woman living in the forest living off of her garden and game that she caught and on the surface they would be correct, but they didn't realize the depth this woman had, and the life that she had lived.
|
The fact of the matter was simply that Rose Red had once been the oldest born daughter to a royal family, but that had all disappeared when her sister was born, and then continued to get worse and worse as her twin sisters were born and then when the last one came, there was no hope for Rose. But that was a long time ago and a lot of pain that Rose Red had buried. Rose kept to herself now and only went into town when she needed something. She had a car but it was nothing special, and looked like a piece of junk if one were to look at it, but it got her from point A to point B. Rose looked up as she heard something coming down her road. It alarmed her slightly. No one ever came down that road, but yet here was a vehicle kicking up the dust and the leaves. Rose closed her book and came to her feet, waiting to see what it was all about.

| Esmeralda turned down a dirt road. She was looking for somewhere quiet and secluded to rest. She was a gypsy in the truest sense. She disliked the city like, preferring to live on the road. She went into the towns she passed by to trade with others and to make what little money she needed to survive. She slowed the car as she noticed a small cottage ahead of her. She pulled up looking at the place before noticing the young woman sitting on the porch.
She stopped and turned the vehicle off. It sputtered slightly as the engine shut down. The old car was getting close to its last leg despite the numorous times she had tried to fix it. She tucked her pills and herb into the center console without looking down, having done so enough times that it was instinct. She opened the door and stepped out.
"Hello?" She called to the girl as she stood behind her open door. "I didn't think there would be a house so far out." |

| Rose stood still, with an expressionless stone face as the woman got out of her car, "People annoy me." Rose said plainly, "So I try to stay as far away from them as possible." She looked down at the woman, her blue eyes collecting small signs about the woman and who she was, and what she wanted. It was clear that the woman spent a lot of time on the road and judging by the homespun clothes and the head scarf she was wearing Rose couldn't help but come to the conclusion that she as a Roma. It was strange to see one by herself as well as this far out, "Strange to get a Roma this far out." She said as she let herself relax a bit and stepped forward from her doorway. As Rose got a better view of the woman it became increasingly clear by the bloodshot look in her eyes that she was on something. Rose really didn't care, she'd never partaken in illegal drugs, but she didn't really care if others did. But that was the thing about Rose Red, she didn't really care about much unless it pertained to her. If nothing else this Roma woman would be able to give her some information of what was going on in other parts of the world, as Rose never travled much.

| Esmeralda smiled at the woman's comment. "Well, I do hope I'm not intruding." She said stepping aside and closing her car's door. She walked halfway to the cabin, moving slowly yet not abandoning her normal graceful stride. Many years dancing had made even her normal movements soft and flowing.
"I was actually looking for a place away from the bustle of town life to rest for a couple nights. I travel a lot and get tired of all the people." She traveled too much sometimes, and met too many people. Besides that her habits kept her from spending much time among the confines that law has set on people. She much preferred to hide away and do as she wished rather than be told how to act and who she could be. |

| Rose watched her walk, the woman had a grace about her that told Rose that she was most likely some sort of performer, dancer most likely. It fit with her Roma heritage. Rose stood where she was continuing to watch the woman as she spoke, "Well you won't have to worry about anyone here, other than me that is." Rose's voice was plain, "I hate people, it's why I've chosen to live all the way out here." She knew that that could be a mystery to people sometimes, particularly with how fashionable she normally dressed. Rose was obsessed with vintage fashion, in fact her entire wardrobe whether it was her clothes for working outside or the vintage dresses she wore to the market, all of it was from either the thirties, forties or fifties. She owned nothing that looked as though it were made after 1955. That was why no one could figure out why she lived so far out in the woods removed from everyone and anyone who could admire her and her style, but Rose didn't much care.
|
Finally Rose stepped out of the way of her door, "Well come in, I don't have much to offer but I guess I could use some company for a few days, besides it'll be good to get caught up on what's going on in this shit world." Rose opened the door and walked in holding it open for the Roma woman behind her.

| Moving forward Esmeralda smiled. "Thank you. Though to tell you what is happening in the world, that would take quite some time." She said as she stepped into the cabin and scanned the room. They place was cozy. "I won't need much. I am used to sleeping in the back of my wagon, and I always bring food with me." |

| Rose let the door shut behind the Roma woman as she walked in, "It's not like we have a whole lot going on around here." She said, once again noting the quiet of the wood that Rose lived in. Rose led her into her living room, which looked like something out of the 1940s, complete with the wooden radio, "Please, sit." She said offering the woman a chair while she sat on one end of the couch and crossed her legs, "So how long have you been traveling?" Rose didn't normally care what was going on, but with her life, and where she came from, she knew it was important on the off chance that she was allowed to return and take her place. Did she really want to though? Part of her did just so she could rule her own way, but there was another part of her that would have much rather just let the entire place burn while she lived in her quiet cottage in the woods. Perhaps this woman's news would give her a better idea of which option to take.

| "As long as I can remember." She said thinking about all the places she had been. "As a child my mother sometimes stayed in one place as long as a couple months. Mostly to earn money and to make sure I could further my training in dance and performance. But never long enough to say I ever had a home like others." She said thinking back before she had lost her mother.
"Now I don't stay long anywhere I go. I'm not one for the confines put on people by what society says is right or wrong. I stay long enough to get supplies and food. Or the money to get it elsewhere." |

| Rose sat back and listened intently to what the Roma had to say. The woman was strangely free with the information she was giving but Rose wasn't about to look a gift horse in the mouth. As the woman said that she'd been to many places Rose had to think that she'd been through the Kingdom that Rose had once been destined to rule, until all of her sisters were born and Rose was left to a world of neglect. The thought left a bitter taste in her mouth, though her face displayed none of it. That was something Rose had become quite good at, hiding her true emotions for the sake of others. Rose knew that if she held in and didn't share her emotions with others, then they couldn't chide her for them or make her feel as though she was wrong for having them, the only side effect to that of course was that Rose eventually stopped having them, at least anything besides bitter anger.

| Esmeralda looked closer at the woman as she talked. She was dressed in vintage clothing yet it suited her well. "What about you? Have you always loved out here?" She asked wondering what the woman's story was. It wasn't often she ran across people so far from the edges of society. That being known, this woman had to have an interesting story. I wasn't often she met someone who could peak her interest like this young woman. |

| Rose shook her head, "I haven't. I once lived... I once lived in a palace in a land far on, but that's a long story." She adjusted slightly in her chair, "Let's just say I was part of a very dysfunctional family." She hated her past, and any talk of it began to bring that bitterness back up in her, but it was always buried in a shallow grave. Rose never forgot what had happened to her, or forgot the faces of her sisters. That was the remarkable part about Rose's life, as horrible as she'd been treated by her parents in comparison to her sisters, Rose never blamed her sisters for her mistreatment, instead she worried about them as an elder sister should have. However it wasn't enough keep her in her past life and so she had decided to retreat into the woods where she wouldn't have to worry about any of this any more. Still the outside world interested her and Rose saw this Roma woman as a way to find ut what was happening, "So where did you come from most recently?" She asked figuring she'd learn things bit by bit, but she was patient.

| Esmeralda smiled softly thinking about the last place she had been. "I was up north, on the coastline. The beach can be quite peaceful out there. There was a small town there, not sure what they name was I didn't stay there long. I mostly stayed on the outskirts like normal anyway. I did find a small orphanage I visited one day, had some nice kids there." She had loved the beach, but she had left to meet up with others from her family. She had thought about going back. "Before that I was inland, met a young girl living out in the woods. Much like yourself, except she was living with several men. Not sure if she was being taken care of by them or if she was the one taking care of them. It was an awkward situation so I didn't stay more than a day." |

| Rose listened intently and as the woman explained where she had been and what she had seen. The first thing that hit her was the orphanage by the sea. She remembered receiving a message from someone there but she couldn't remember who... at least not off the top of her head. It was frustrating, Rose was the type that had to know and remember everything. Her blue eyes searched for the answer but it seemed there was none there... the words were simple, from an Edgar Allen Poe poem: " It was many and many a year ago, In a kingdom by the sea, That a maiden there lived whom you may know By the name of Ariel Lee; And this maiden she lived with no other thought Than to love and be loved by me." Her sister! Rose gave no sign that she recognized where the Roma woman was talking about, but continued listening intently as she mentioned the woman who lived with the men. It did seem strange, and slightly dangerous, but that story hadn't really struck a cord with her, not like the other one did. Damn Grinhilde and her lust for power. Rose could only imagine that if Ariel had been sent away, all the rest of her sisters had as well.
|
"Could... I'm sorry could you tell me a bit more about the orphanage? Could you tell if they were being well taken care of or not?" Rose tried to sound relatively indifferent, other than simply caring about the well being of children. Honestly with the history that Rose Red had she shouldn't have cared about her sisters, but yet, through all the neglect, Rose never blamed her sisters for her fate. She put the blame right where it should have been; on her parents and then of course on her step-mother, who seemed to be the one causing all the problems now.

| Esmeralda thought back remembering each face she had seen. "They weren't wealthy by any means. Most of the kids were dressed in old clothes, but they seemed well fed. Though there was an obvious clique issue. One girl was clearly putting herself above the others despite them all being place there equally." She thought back trying to remember more of the details about the place. She remembered the black hair girl and how she acted almost as if she was better than the rest despite her being an orphan like them. She remembered not seeing much of the men who ran the place. "The kids seemed to take of themselves for the most part. I do remember a few of the girls, one was older, probably about the age she would have to be to leave on her own. Another, I am not sure her name, she spent nearly every moment in the water. I didn't talk to her but I heard the others calling her the little mermaid as a nickname. She was beautiful with her red hair much like yours. The name they gave her clearly fit." |
